PHCL2001: Introduction to Pharmacology: How drugs exert effects

This introductory course will develop a foundational understanding of the principles of pharmacology?the study of how drugs affect the body (pharmacodynamics) and how the body affects drugs (pharmacokinetics). Through a series of in-person lectures with open discussion encouraged, students will be introduced to how drugs interact with targets to influence biology and how the body is able to absorb, distribute, and ultimately clear a drug from the system. The course has no prerequisites and is designed for students with a basic understanding of biology and chemistry. Upon completing the course, students should have fundamental knowledge of key principles in pharmacology to build upon for further study in pharmacology, pharmacy, medicine, therapeutics, clinical sciences, and other health-related fields.
